G'day
thought i might try and get this forum up n running
what has been your most memorable dive
i have two that stick in my brian the first was my first dive after
gaining my OW cert
we did a wreck dive off Philip island in victoria called the George
Kermode an old bucket dredge laying in 21 mt
as i decended my buddy followed me down thru my bubbles and i couldnt see
him he scared the bejesus outta me when he grabbed me from behind as
i hovered over the wreck
after i almost inhaled 1/2 the tank we set off exploring swimming in and
out of holes and just having the best time
just when i thought it couldnt be more fun we swam around the bow section
and was greeted by a school of at least 1000 2-3 ft yellow tailed
kingies
it just blew my mind seeing so many fish as we swam into the school they
parted just enough to let us in and we were enveloped in a mass of silver
and yellow
the vision of that school is still as vivid in my minds eye as the day it
occured and is still one of the highlights of 20+ years of diving

the 2nd one was while diving Gizo's "The Hot Spot" in the Solomon Islands
in 96
we were gliding along a spectacular coral reef in 40 mts when my buddy
grabbed me { no not the same one } and spun me around to face a 10ft
gracefull whaler who was bearing down on us as if it had brakes it came to a
sudden halt banked to the left and moved about 15 mts to that side then
turned and swam at arms distance past the 4 of us then as our eyes were
fixed on this magnificant fish it turned and in an instant flicked its tail
and again bore down on us and about 2 ft below us in one swift fluent
motion it took out the fish that was swimming beneath us in a matter of
seconds that seemed to be in slow motion it was all over .My mate still
tells everyone that when he looked into my face all he could see were
eyeballs they seemed to take up the whole mask, mind you he's were about the
same too.
when were got back to Danny Kennedy's dive shop in Gizo we were greeted
by danny saying "so you guys had a pretty good dive?" "its not often the
guides race back to tell about the dive before the guests do"
he then told us that in all the years he had dived in gizo he had only
witnessed a naturalk shark feed once
proving just how blessed and lucky we had been

so these are two of my many memorable dives
i hope that others can add and lets get this forum moving
hoo roo for now

You youngsters can still remember when you started diving ?,
my most enjoyable dive was a solo dive at Tiran Island in
the Red Sea but my most memorable was when I unclipped
my stage tank and dropped it in some deep black hole. I
thought that would be my last dive, but sometimes we
just get lucky. This year I will be diving in your country
my first trip, so I hope they will also be enjoyable dives.

Not sure if this will prove to be my most memorable
in the long term, but the better half and I just returned
from NZ...

Milford Sound was breathtaking, diving with snow
capped peaks as a backdrop was something entirely
new to us, and the service from the charter co. was
second to none. (www.tawakidive.co.nz)

We managed a few other dives over there, the Rainbow
Warrior was great, as was a nearby reef done as a second
dive. We both thought the diving around Goat Island off
Leigh was over-rated, but maybe it just wasn't the best day...

Cheers

nearby mountains it was just unbelievable

been back a week from NZ. Didn't do Milford Sound but had 2 days of diving
in doubtful sound, I assume it is about the same, was absolutely
magnificent. Sadly a female Aus diver died near the same area while we were
doing the Kepler Walk after finishing diving. Also did some diving off
Stewart Island which was also fantastic the kelp is great.

were these my most memorable dives? Hard to say because my most memorable
dive always seems to be my last one ( unless it was really lousy and than it
was the one before )
