This is a classic example of people with -way- too much time on their hands.
If they started dumping construction debris on the Spiegle Grove,
would you feel differently?
Galloping Gertie and Spiegel Grove are not in the same league.

Spiegel Grove is an artifical reef (keyword: artificial) deliberately
sunk by chamber of commerce scammers to give divers something to look
at AND PAY FOR besides polluted and dying coral. "...here, kitty,
kitty, kitty..."

Galloping Gertie is on the bottom because of a natural (keyword:
natural) disaster--It has been placed on the National Register of
Historic Places.

For those of us who prefer our wrecks dirty, deep, dangerous and
steeping in the history of war and or natural disasters, Galloping
Gertie is the real thing.

Conversely, the antiseptically clean Spiegel Grove (with its
kiddy-safe swim through cutout holes beckoning to psuedo macho resort
divers) is the dive industry on steroids and something akin to shark
diving in aquariums, another money scam brought to you by Florida
hucksters.

Life-time medallion anyone?

actually not a disaster, but an incompetent design.

the tacoma narrows is famous for its winds,
and the designer assumed that wind loading was inconsequential.
he was very wrong.
